Living Qur'an di Masyarakat Pesantren Jawa Timur: Kajian Fenomenologi terhadap Praktik Tilawah dan Tahfizh

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of the Living Qur'an in East Javanese pesantren communities, with a focus on the phenomenological analysis of tilawah (recitation) and tahfizh (memorization) practices. The Living Qur'an concept refers to various forms of actualization of the Qur'an in the daily lives of Muslim communities, encompassing not only reading and memorization practices but also the broader ways in which the Qur'an shapes the world view, behavior, and social relations of its adherents. Using a phenomenological approach drawing on the Husserlian and Schutzian traditions, this research conducts in-depth analysis of tilawah and tahfizh practices in three pesantren in East Java as representative sites. The findings reveal that tilawah and tahfizh practices in East Javanese pesantren are not merely mechanical religious rituals, but complex social phenomena laden with meaning that encompass spiritual, educational, social, and cultural dimensions. These practices function as mechanisms for identity formation, community solidarity, and the transmission of religious values across generations. This study concludes that the Living Qur'an in East Javanese pesantren represents an authentic form of Qur'anic actualization that deserves deeper academic attention as a model of Islamic practice rooted in local tradition.
