Tafsir Gender dan Keadilan dalam Al-Qur'an: Perspektif Mufasir Perempuan Indonesia Kontemporer

Abstract

This study examines the gender tafsir tradition developed by contemporary Indonesian women scholars, focusing on how they re-read Qur'anic verses related to the position and role of women through a justice perspective. The study analyzes the works of prominent Indonesian women scholars who have made significant contributions to gender Qur'anic interpretation, including Siti Musdah Mulia, Zaitunah Subhan, Nurjannah Ismail, and Lily Zakiyah Munir. Using a hermeneutical analysis approach combined with gender theory, this study reveals that contemporary Indonesian women interpreters have developed a distinctive approach that differs both from the traditionalist tafsir which tends to justify gender inequality and from the radical feminist approach which tends to be deconstructive toward the Qur'anic text. The women interpreters studied in this research consistently demonstrate that the Al-Qur'an's fundamental message is egalitarian and justice-oriented, while patriarchal readings that have become dominant in the tafsir tradition are products of specific socio-cultural and historical contexts that can be critically reviewed and corrected. This study concludes that the perspective of Indonesian women interpreters offers a significant and constructive contribution to global gender tafsir discourse.
