Al-Qur'an dan Nasionalisme Indonesia: Dialektika Tafsir dalam Pembentukan Ideologi Kebangsaan

Abstract

This study examines the dialectical relationship between Qur'anic interpretation and Indonesian nationalism ideology formation, from the independence period to the contemporary era. By analyzing the works of prominent Indonesian Muslim scholars who have contributed to the discourse of Islam and nationalism, this study reveals how Al-Qur'an has been used as a theological resource to legitimize, criticize, and enrich the concept of Indonesian nationalism. The study shows that the relationship between Qur'anic interpretation and Indonesian nationalism is not unidirectional, but dynamic and dialectical. On one side, nationalist needs and aspirations have influenced how Muslim scholars interpret Qur'anic verses related to community relations, government, and collective identity. On the other side, Qur'anic interpretations that have been formulated have also contributed to shaping the character and direction of Indonesian nationalism. The study concludes that the Islam-nationalism dialectic in Indonesia has produced a distinctive model of civic nationalism that is inclusive, pluralistic, and rooted in local Islamic ethical tradition, which is relevant not only for Indonesia but also as a contribution to global discourse about Islam's relationship with the modern nation-state.
