AI Tools Usage Policy

JCIS permits the responsible, transparent use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and large language model (LLM) tools in the research and writing process, subject to the following conditions, consistent with emerging Scopus/Elsevier and COPE guidance on AI in scholarly publishing:

• AI tools may not be listed as an author or co-author, as authorship requires accountability that AI systems cannot bear.
• Any use of AI tools in drafting, translating, or editing text, or in data analysis, must be disclosed in the Acknowledgements or Methods section, specifying the tool, version, and purpose of use.
• Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all AI-assisted content, including the absence of fabricated citations or 'hallucinated' data.
• AI tools must not be used to generate fabricated data, falsify results, or fabricate citations.
• Reviewers and editors are prohibited from uploading confidential manuscript content into public generative-AI systems, in order to protect author confidentiality and intellectual property.
